If you’re a fan of simple, chocolatey desserts, this Maltesers no-bake slice is a must-try. It’s crunchy, malty, and packed with flavour, making it the ultimate traybake for any occasion.

I love no-bake desserts for their simplicity, and this one is among the easiest to make. With a buttery biscuit base, semi-crushed Maltesers, and a thick layer of milk chocolate on top, it’s an indulgent dessert you can whip up in no time.

What Makes This Recipe Special?

This no-bake slice is quick, easy, and requires just a handful of ingredients. It’s perfect for when you’re short on time but still want to impress.

The addition of crushed Maltesers gives it a unique texture, with a satisfying crunch in every bite. Plus, it’s versatile—great for parties, lunchboxes, or as an afternoon snack.

Equipment You’ll Need

To make this recipe, you’ll need:

Tips for the Perfect Maltesers Slice

  1. Use Semi-Crushed Maltesers: Crushing the Maltesers slightly gives the slice a great mix of textures. Leave some larger pieces for extra crunch.
  2. Pack the Base Firmly: Press the biscuit mixture into the tin firmly to ensure it holds together when sliced.
  3. Chill Thoroughly: Refrigerate the slice for at least 3 hours to set properly before cutting.

Ingredients for Maltesers No-Bake Slice

For the Base:

  • 350 g digestive biscuits, crushed (3 ¼ cups graham crackers in the US)
  • 100 g salted butter, melted (7 tbsp salted butter)
  • 300 g condensed milk (1 cup sweetened condensed milk)
  • 100 g Maltesers, semi-crushed (½ cup Whoppers for the US)

For the Topping:

  • 200 g milk chocolate, melted (1 ¼ cups milk chocolate chips)
  • 15 g salted butter, melted (1 tbsp salted butter)
  • 100 g Maltesers, for topping (½ cup Whoppers for the US)

How to Make Maltesers No-Bake Slice

Step 1: Prepare the Tin

Line an 8” or 9” square tin with parchment paper, ensuring it extends slightly over the edges for easy removal.

Step 2: Make the Biscuit Base

In a large mixing bowl, combine the crushed digestive biscuits, melted butter, and condensed milk until combined, then mix through the semi-crushed Maltesers.

Press the mixture firmly into the prepared tin, creating an even layer.

Step 3: Prepare the Chocolate Topping

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the milk chocolate and 15 g of butter in 1-minute intervals, stirring between each interval, until smooth and glossy.

Step 4: Assemble the Slice

Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the biscuit base, spreading it out evenly with a spatula or the back of a spoon. Scatter the remaining Maltesers over the top, pressing them lightly into the chocolate.

Step 5: Chill and Slice

Refrigerate the slice for at least 3 hours, or until the chocolate has set and the base is firm. Once set, lift the slice out of the tin using the parchment paper.

Use a sharp knife to cut it into squares or rectangles. To stop the chocolate from cracking, you can score the top with a sharp knife or warm the knife under a hot tap to slice through the chocolate topping more easily.

Why This Recipe is Perfect for Any Occasion

This Maltesers no-bake slice is perfect for any event, from birthday parties to casual get-togethers. It’s easy to transport, doesn’t require reheating, and tastes amazing served straight from the fridge.

Because it’s so simple to make, it’s also a great recipe for kids to help with or for when you need a last-minute dessert.

Tips for Success

  1. Choose the Right Tin Size: An 8” tin will give you slightly thicker slices, while a 9” tin creates thinner, more portioned pieces.
  2. Don’t Overheat the Chocolate: Melt the chocolate and butter on low heat to avoid seizing.
  3. Store Properly: Keep the slice in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. It also freezes well for up to 3 months.

Serving Suggestions

Best served on its own – I like to eat mine straight out of the fridge when it’s firm and crunchy. I usually cut it into 16 pieces, however you can always make the slices smaller to feed a larger crowd.
