Why You’ll Love These Fudgy Nutella Brownies
If you’re a Nutella fan, these Nutella brownies are about to become your new go-to brownie. They’re thick, rich, and incredibly fudgy, making them the ultimate chocolate indulgence.
A variation of this recipe can also be found in my cookbook Fitwaffle’s Baked In One.
It combines the creaminess and chocolate hazelnut flavours of Nutella with the richness of dark chocolate to create the ultimate fudgy brownie.
What Makes This Recipe Special?
The combination of melted dark chocolate, Nutella, and chocolate chips ensures every bite is intensely chocolatey. These brownies are perfectly sweet and have a dense, gooey texture that every brownie should (in my opinion).
They’re also versatile—you can enjoy them on their own or pair them with ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgent dessert. You can also switch up the flavour of the chocolate chips or even switch the Nutella for another chocolate spread.
Equipment You’ll Need
To make these brownies, you’ll need:
- 8×8-inch square tin – For thick, evenly baked brownies.
- Mixing bowls – For the batter and melted chocolate.
- Microwave-safe bowls – To melt the chocolate and the butter.
- Spatula or metal spoons – For mixing and smoothing the batter.
- Parchment/baking paper – To line the tin for easy removal.
Tips for the Perfect Fudgy Brownies
- Don’t Overbake: Keep an eye on the brownies as they bake. The edges should be set and cracked. The brownies will continue baking and set as they cool to give that perfect fudgy texture.
- Chill for Best Results: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the tin, then refrigerate them for at least 3 hours or overnight for an even denser, fudgier consistency.
- Dark Chocolate: Use good dark chocolate that you like the taste of. I tend to use one that’s around 55% cocoa, it’s not too bitter but still nice and rich.

- 250 g caster sugar (1 ¼ cups granulated sugar)
- 3 large eggs, room temperature
- 250 g dark chocolate, melted and cooled slightly (8.8 oz)

How to Make Fudgiest Nutella Brownies
Step 1: Prepare the Tin
Line an 8×8-inch square tin with parchment paper, ensuring it extends slightly over the edges for easy removal. Preheat your oven to 190C/(170°C fan)/375°F.
Step 3: Make the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and caster sugar using an electric mixer until fully combined.
Add in the eggs and whisk well until they’re really thick and fluffy and light in colour.
Then add the melted chocolate and the Nutella, whisking until fully combined.
Step 4: Add the Dry Ingredients
Sift the plain flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gently fold in the dry ingredients using a rubber spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Then fold in the chocolate chips.
Step 6: Bake the Brownies
Pour the batter into the prepared tin, spreading it out evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until the edges are set and cracked. The brownies will continue to bake and set as they cool.
Step 7: Cool and Chill
Allow the brownies to cool fully in the tin, then refrigerate them for at least 3 hours, or preferably overnight, for the best fudgy texture.
Why These Brownies Are Perfect for Any Occasion

Tips for Success
- Chill for Clean Slices: Refrigerating the brownies makes them easier to slice neatly. Use a sharp knife, wiping it clean between cuts.
- Add Toppings: For extra flair, drizzle the cooled brownies with caramel sauce or sprinkle them with flaky sea salt.
- Store Properly: Keep the brownies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days, or freeze them for up to 3 months.
Serving Suggestions
These brownies are delicious on their own, but you can also serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
For a more decadent dessert, top them with whipped cream or a sprinkle of crushed nuts.
