It’s a quick, family-friendly meal that’s easy to customise with your favourite fillings and seasonings.
Equipment You’ll Need
To make this recipe, you’ll need:
- Air fryer – For perfectly crisp and golden wraps. I used a Tower 11L Air Fryer, it’s my favourite Air Fryer.
- Knife – For cutting the tortillas.
- Spoon or spatula – For assembling the wrap.
- Small air fryer safe dish (if your air fryer doesn’t have a basket)– to cook the beef
Why Air Fryers Are Perfect for This Recipe
- Quick Cooking: The air fryer crisps the wrap in under 10 minutes.
- Even Heating: It cooks the wrap evenly, ensuring every bite is perfectly toasted.
- Energy-Efficient: The air fryer uses less energy than an oven, making it both cost-effective and convenient.
Ingredients for Air Fryer Crunchwrap
- 100 g minced (ground) beef (3.5 oz)
- ¼ onion, diced
- 1 tsp taco seasoning or similar
- 2 large tortillas
- 1 tbsp sour cream
- A handful of grated Cheddar
- 4–6 tortilla chips
- ½ medium tomato, diced
- A handful of shredded lettuce
- Olive oil spray
- Salt and pepper, to taste
How to Make an Air Fryer Crunchwrap
Step 1: Preheat the Air Fryer
Set your air fryer to 180˚C (350˚F) while you prepare the filling.
Step 2: Cook the Beef
Place the minced beef in the air fryer basket or a small air fryer-safe dish. Add the diced onion, and taco seasoning. Air fry for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is cooked through. Drain any excess liquid.
Step 3: Prepare the Tortillas
Lay one tortilla on a flat surface and cut out a 10 cm (4 in) circle to create a mini tortilla. Set aside.
Step 4: Assemble the Crunch Wrap
Lay the larger tortilla flat and spread sour cream in the center. Add the cooked beef, grated cheese, and tortilla chips. Top with diced tomatoes and shredded lettuce, then place the mini tortilla on top.
Fold the edges of the larger tortilla inward, creating creases as you go to form a hexagon shape.
Step 5: Air Fry the Wrap
Spray the air fryer basket with oil and place the wrap, folds down, into the basket. Spray the top with oil.
Increase the air fryer temperature to 200˚C (400˚F) and cook for 3–4 minutes. Flip the wrap and cook for another 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy on both sides.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Cut the crunch wrap in half with a serrated knife and serve immediately. Pair it with your favourite dipping sauce, like salsa or guacamole, for extra flavour.
Why This Crunchwrap is Perfect for Any Occasion
This air fryer crunch wrap is versatile enough for lunch, dinner, or even a late-night snack. It’s crispy texture and flavourful fillings make it a crowd-pleaser, whether you’re serving it at a casual get-together or enjoying a cozy night in.
The best part? It’s easily customizable! Swap out the beef for shredded chicken, add beans for a vegetarian option, or spice it up with jalapeños.
Tips for the Best Air Fryer Crunchwrap
- Use Sturdy Tortillas: Large tortillas that are slightly thicker hold up better when folding and cooking.
- Don’t Overfill: Overfilling can make the wrap difficult to seal and cook evenly.
- Cut with a Serrated Knife: A serrated knife makes it easier to slice the wrap without squishing the fillings.
- Make Homemade Chips: Use leftover tortilla scraps to make your own chips (see tip below).
- Avoid Wilted Lettuce: Don’t overcook the wrap, as the lettuce can lose its crispness.
Bonus Tip: Homemade Tortilla Chips
Cut your leftover tortilla scraps into triangles, spray with oil, and air fry for 3–4 minutes, turning halfway through. Sprinkle with salt for quick, crispy tortilla chips!
Serving Suggestions
This crunch wrap is satisfying on its own, but you can elevate it with these sides:
- Salsa or Guacamole: Perfect for dipping.
- Mexican Rice: A great side dish for a complete meal.
- Corn Salad: Adds a fresh, zesty element to the plate.
